The model must be designed to hold cross-functional relationships natively, not to receive them as imports.
Two or three people in the organization truly understand how the model works. When they are on leave, changes wait. When one of them leaves the company, the planning cycle for that quarter is at risk. Documentation exists but cannot be relied upon. Institutional knowledge is the only reliable guide to model behavior.
This pattern is often described as a people problem. It is not. It is a model complexity problem that has accumulated over years.

The architectural constraints surface gradually. The first planning cycle takes a little longer than expected. A new dimension request is deferred to the next quarter. Scenario coverage gets quietly reduced. A specialist becomes indispensable.
By the time the pattern is recognized as structural rather than procedural, the organization has usually spent two or three years trying to fix it with process changes that cannot work, because the constraint is not in the process.
